Dine for Dignity

Since 2006, Think Dignity (formerly Girls Think Tank) has brought together downtown professionals, current and former homeless individuals, and committed community members in a shared belief that every member of our society deserves basic human dignity. Currently in San Diego County, there are over 8,000 homeless individuals.

As you may know, we are holding our fourth restaurant week benefiting Think Dignity, “Dine for Dignity” from August 8-14, 2016 at various local restaurants. This year we are happy to announce that we have partnered up with Good Eats San Diego Foodie Week to bring you even more customers and raise even more money. We are asking that your restaurant join us in the fight for basic dignity by donating 15% of proceeds from profits generated from your restaurants featured day. Your generous donation will help Think Dignity continue its important advocacy work and provide the following needed services:

  • Fresh Start Mobile Showers: Our newest program, this 2 shower/ 2 restroom trailer based on the Lava Mae project in San Francisco, brings basic dignity to our unhoused neighbors by providing access to safe shower facilities to various communities throughout the City. The showers are operated by TD staff and volunteers in partnership with community service providers, such as hairstylists and healthcare providers. The program will run at least one evening a month.
  • The Transitional Storage Center: Enables over 400 homeless individuals to safely store their personal belongings while they job hunt, work, attend classes, or get medical care. Since May of 2012, Think Dignity has assumed management of the Center, which helps individuals transition back to housing while clearing over 30,000 lbs. of belongings off the streets.
  • Legal Referral and Advocacy Clinic: Think Dignity operates legal clinics with the help of volunteer lawyers and law students. The clinic is held monthly (sometimes more often) at seven different locations in central San Diego which are easily accessible for those living on the streets and those in transitional housing. Clinics assists displaced individuals with a wide array of legal issues and thus far, Think Dignity has helped over 200 individuals find meaningful aid for their legal problems. Think Dignity organizes quarterly workshops to educate people on the streets regarding their legal rights and empower them to educate others. Recently, Think Dignity compiled the “Know Your Rights” pocket reference to enable each individual to advocate for themselves and their community.
  • Survival Supplies Distribution: Think Dignity engages community volunteers and agency partners to distribute survival supplies, including basic hygienic necessities to homeless individuals. Thus far, Think Dignity has distributed over 2,500 packs containing survival supplies to the most vulnerable population.

Dine for Dignity’s success is key to supporting this important work. In return for your tax deductible donation, your restaurant’s name will be featured on our website and included in our marketing and advertising material for the event.
